Cats (the obsession)
I love cats. Growing up we had two cats- one fluffy tabby called Polly who was adopted from Woodgreen; and a black (and brown in the sun) cat called Cocoa. We had them both until they were old ladies - they inspired some of my designs - Polly was one of my first keyring designs, and Cocoa is both a pin badge and a keyring.
Cats are more independent than dogs - it feels like a privilege when they choose to grace you with their presence (and even sit on your lap). I currently have two cats - Mazikeen my 6 year old black and white cat who is the grumpy queen of the household; and Onyx the energetic 11 month old kitten (who knew one cat could have so much energy).
Mazikeen has been illustrated as a pin badge and a coaster - she has the coolest markings with a black tail with a white tip as well as almost fringe looking facial markings. Onyx is definitely going to be drawn in the future (as soon as I can get some good reference images). Both my cats like to supervise me in my studio - though Maze likes to sleep on the job, Onyx will keep a close eye on what I'm doing.
I also love to draw cats I know from my sisters cat Luna (pin badge and keyring inspiration), and my parents cats Kumiko and Shelby (coaster and earrings) to my friend Jazzs cat Robyn (who was a coaster).
Drawing cats is always so fun and I enjoy trying to bring their personality across in my illustration.
